Privacy and security
KairOS works on your Mac, on your files. It’s only natural to want to know what it reads, what it sends, and what it never touches. Here is the answer, plainly.
In short
- Your files, photos, messages and passwords stay on your Mac. KairOS never sends them.
- Nothing is deleted without your say-so, and anything put in quarantine can be restored.
- No ads, no selling of data, no account to create.
- Anonymous statistics can be switched off in one click in the app.
Why KairOS asks for certain access
To clean, it has to look. Each permission has a specific reason:
- Full Disk Access: to find caches, app leftovers, duplicates and large files. The analysis happens on your Mac; file contents are not sent anywhere.
- Administrator rights: only when a protected item has to be quarantined or removed. You type your password in Apple’s own window; KairOS never sees it.
- Finder and System Events: to empty the Trash and manage items that open at login.
- Touch ID: to lock your hidden folders. macOS recognises your fingerprint; KairOS receives nothing from it.
- Network and VPN: the VPN routes your connection through the server you choose. KairOS does not record what you do online. Public servers are run by third parties: choose them knowingly.
What the app sends (anonymous statistics)
To count installs, fix errors and offer you updates, the app sends:
- your Mac’s model, chip, macOS version, memory and disk size;
- the language, the KairOS version, the pages opened and the amount cleaned;
- the errors it ran into;
- a random identifier for this install and an encrypted fingerprint of the machine, used to count Macs without identifying you.
Never your files, their names or locations, your name, your passwords or the content of your messages. To switch it all off: Assistant settings, then “Anonymous statistics”. Updates keep working.
What the website records
When you visit getkairos.pro or download KairOS, the site keeps:
- the page opened, the date, your language and the page you came from;
- your IP address and, from it, an approximate country and city;
- the type of device, the system and the browser;
- an anonymous identifier stored in your browser, to tie a visit to the download that follows;
- whether you pressed a Download button, and which one.
This is used only to know how many people visit and use KairOS, and to fix what doesn’t work. No ads, no resale, no tracking on other sites. The site also remembers your language choice.
Windows waiting list
If you leave your e-mail address to hear about KairOS for Windows, we keep it, along with your approximate country and city, only to write to you about that. It is never resold or used for anything else. You can ask for it to be deleted at any time.
How long
IP addresses from visits and downloads are erased after 12 months. Statistics without an address (a number of visits, for example) are kept.
Opening KairOS with confidence
KairOS is not distributed through the App Store. The first time, macOS may therefore ask you to confirm that you want to open it:
- open the downloaded file and drag KairOS into Applications;
- right-click (or Control-click) KairOS, then “Open”, and confirm.
This is a normal macOS step for an app downloaded outside the App Store. You only do it once. KairOS also relies on Apple’s security signatures (XProtect) for its antivirus.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the information about you, or object to it being recorded.
